RP Journal for memento_eden.

Character Name: Raimundo
Character Series: Xiaolin Showdown
Age: Uh, 15... ish. (It's never established, so I'm reaching >_>;; ) Let’s go for 15.

Background:
We don't really get to know a lot about Raimundo's past in the show, but we do know he was born in Brazil, presumably Rio de Janiero as he's so fond of it. His family is a real circus (pun totally intended) and quite large, and being part of a show for most of his life meant he got used to being surrounded by people. He was called away from his acrobatics to join the Xiaolin temple as the one destined to become the Dragon of the Wind. Not entirely thrilled with the prospects offered by the temple, he nonetheless stuck around; whether to wind up the Cueball, flirt with the cute Japanese girl, keep the cowboy some company or because he actually felt he could do some good by staying, it's not certain.

From this point on, he trained and waited around for mystical items called the Shen Gong Wu to awaken, travelling around the world to collect the items with his fellow monks and keep them out of the hands of evildoers like Jack Spicer and the ghost witch Wuya.

Almost immediately after joining the temple, Raimundo found himself discontent. Sure, life in the circus hadn't exactly been five star, but he was still accustomed to sleeping in real beds and getting the occasional lay in – here, it was early hours, chore after chore after training and the lack of any real social interaction outside of the monks, and it wound him up. He was a social creature and he probably could have handled it if there was at least a beach nearby so he could surf. Or play soccer – if he could do that with an actual group of people rather than running around after Omi, trying to teach him the rules, then he'd probably have been able to handle it.

His first real shock came from being beaten by an overweight ninja named Tubbimura. Utterly humiliated, Raimundo threw himself into studying so he could kick some ninja ass prove to the others that he wasn’t a failure – he’d just messed up a bit. His eventual triumph over the ninja got him back to his normal, cheeky self pretty quickly.

Raimundo got a bit more comfortable as time went by, and while he did have his spats with his fellow Dragons, he also grew to care for them like he did his family. When they nearly lost Omi in New York, searching for the Serpent's Tail, he got a bit frantic, and hadn't been able to hide his relief when they'd found him, sweeping him up and giving him a hug.

It was a shame it didn't really make the gang a bit closer. When he tried to save the temple from Wuya and her latest partner-in-crime, the Shen-Gong-Wu demon Mala Mala Jong, he was berated for disobeying orders, dismayed as the others were promoted to Apprentice level while he was not and stormed off in a huff, completely jealous and feeling put out – he'd done his best, hadn't he? He'd nearly saved the temple! But no, trying to stop the monster from destroying their home was clearly a bad thing...

He did come back, but not for long – when Wuya came to him with the seductive offerings of a life far more extravagant than any he could truly fathom, it didn't take much more to send him plummeting over the edge and into the depths of the Heylin side. Struggling with whether or not he could do such a thing, an offhanded comment from Omi settled his mind. He was quickly up to his neck in betrayal, theft, and bringing about 10,000 years of darkness in the form of a newly-fleshy Wuya.

Funnily enough, attaining his heart's desire proved something to Raimundo he hadn't really understood before – having everything was all well and good, but what was the point in having it if you couldn't share it? He wanted his friends back, but with them unwilling to join the dark side and Wuya determined to kill them, he didn't have many options open. As Wuya nearly managed to kill his friends, he took up the weapon the young monk Omi had received, a wooden puzzle box, and trapped the witch inside (with a little help from a ghosty Dashi, the creator of the Shen Gong Wu). As Wuya's power deteriorated, the fortress she had built started crumbling and the group (the monks, Dojo, Jack and Raimundo) hightailed it out of there.

When the dust settled, the group found themselves short of one Dragon of the Wind.

Personality:
Raimundo is... arrogant. Brash. Cocky. Very much a teenage boy, really. He hasn't got the money to be wearing the latest fashions, but you can see he's the sort who follows them – he's perfectly aware of what's cool and what's not. Compared to the other monks, he's really one of the more straight-talking members of the group; he likes to say what he means, no quibbles, and although he does use slang (mostly to wind Omi up), he's still pretty clear with his meaning. His arrogance leads to the appearance that he doesn't really respect anyone – it's not exactly the case, it's just that he finds it hard to rein himself in and keep his mouth shut when he ought to. Raimundo keeps up an appearance of being very selfish, but he does care about his friends once he gets to know them – unfortunately this didn't stop him going over to the Heylin side, but everyone messes up sometimes. He wanted to make up for the things he had done, but with his memory loss it's probable he'll return to his good old self – a bit arrogant, and a bit selfish until he makes some new friends.

One of his favourite pastimes is winding other people up. He loves to pull pranks, some of which can be a bit vindictive, and he tries to find the humor in most things. Sometimes, his pranks come in the form of hustling – he's got a lot of street smarts, from growing up in the circus, and knows a good few tricks, like that hide-a-item-under-a-cup thing.

Like his element, he's pretty laid back – he has a lot of passing fancies (many being attractive girls, but then he is a teenage boy...), and he likes to be active... if it means doing something he enjoys. His favourite activities are surfing and soccer. When it comes to chores, however, he'll do almost anything to get out of them. He likes to sleep deep into the early hours of the afternoon, like many of his teenage brethren.

Raimundo's greatest fear is a giant sea monster. He always knew it was there in the water, but it didn't like to reveal itself (technically this isn't found out until series two, but it's still his biggest fear right?). He tends to act without thinking, which tends to get him into a lot of trouble. He's not so good under pressure - he'd much rather offload responsibility on someone else.

Item Lost: Ninja Fred, his long-time teddy bear. (He gets very defensive about that teddy, which makes me think there's something we never found out about it... or it's a comfort thing, either way... Anyway is the teddy ok? Alternatively I’d say the medallion he wears constantly in S1.)
